Notice of Opportunity for Public Comment

Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO), as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for Kootenai County, works in collaboration with local jurisdictions and agencies, as well as the Idaho Transportation Department, to develop and maintain a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) that forms the basis from which regionally significant transportation investments are identified and funded.   The purpose of the MTP is to document existing transportation conditions; anticipate the future impacts associated with growth and development; and identify regionally significant transportation investments that will be necessary to ensure continued mobility for the traveling public.  The MTP supports funding transportation improvements within Kootenai County, which anticipates the use of Federal aid funds available through the USDOT – Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA).   The MTP includes potentially eligible projects that are both traditional capital investments, as well as nontraditional capital investments, that support the safe and efficient movement of people and goods, as well as the utilization of public and non-motorized transportation.

Recommended Changes:
The MTP 2021 Update as recommended by the KMPO Technical Committee (KCATT), will incorporate a recent alignment change on the north side of the Huetter Corridor moving the connection with U.S. 95 from the vicinity of SH-53, southward to the vicinity of U.S. 95 and Boekel Road as a result of the recent SH-53 Interchange.  The update will also update current and future travel demand forecasts.  This update specifically incorporates modifications related to the completed construction of the SH-53/U.S. 95 interchange, U.S. 95 Garwood Overpass, extension of Government Way, and the recent adoption of the Huetter Corridor realignment by the City of Hayden into and within the Comprehensive Plan and Transportation Plan.
