PROJECTS

BRIDGING THE VALLEY:

The Bridging the Valley (BTV) project will separate vehicle traffic from train traffic in the 42 mile corridor between Spokane, Washington and Athol, Idaho. The separation of railroad and roadway grades in this corridor--which currently includes 75 railroad roadway crossings--will promote future economic growth, traffic mobility, traffic safety, and train whistle noise abatement. Link to Bridging the Valley here.

EAST VALLEY / WEST RATHDRUM PRAIRIE MODEL:

KMPO and SRTC are developing a joint travel demand model that will be used to evaluate transportation projects in the interstate corridor on both sides of the state line. Please click here for more information.

HUETTER ROAD CORRIDOR STUDY:

The KMPO Policy Board has adopted an alignment and right of way corridor for a future north-south freeway in the area of Huetter Road.

S.H. 97 CORRIDOR STUDY:

KMPO is sponsoring a State Highway 97 Corridor Plan/Route Development Plan.  The plan will assess the ability of SH 97 to carry additional traffic brought about by the current and anticipated growth over the next 20 years. The plan will evaluate existing and future conditions, identify potential improvements, examine alternate routes and modes of transportation, prepare a financial analysis of identified improvements and alternate items, and ultimately provide recommendations for reasonable improvements. U.S. 95 ACCESS ANALYSIS STUDY:

With the high growth rate in both residential and commercial activity, U.S. 95 has developed long backups, both on the arterial and the side streets that meet it.  Queuing on U.S. 95 at various locations between Interstate 90 and S.H. 53 has been observed in excess of ½ a mile.   A variety of signal cycle lengths have been attempted to ease the congestion, with no major improvements.

Additionally, there are a variety of median crossings along the corridor that are perceived to induce greater delay and create a higher degree of safety issues.

To address these concerns, the Idaho Transportation Department has requested that KMPO coordinate with local agencies to evaluate the closure of existing non-controlled median crossings and make recommendations on how to better manage the flow of traffic on U.S. 95.
