About KMPO
KOOTENAI METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
250 Northwest Boulevard, Suite209 Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814 What is KMPO? Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO) was formed in 2003 to meet a federal mandate that was triggered when the areas of Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls and Hayden exceeded a combined population of 50,000. The purpose of KMPO is to ensure continuous, cooperative and coordinated transportation planning for Kootenai County. Regional transportation planning requires an understanding of the past, recognition of current conditions, and the ability to provide an economically achievable, environmentally balanced, and consumer-friendly transportation system that enables the region to reach its full potential. KMPO provides a coordinated planning effort between the public, cities, small towns, the county, highway districts, the state, transit providers, and the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. How Does KMPO Operate? KMPO is located in Coeur d'Alene, ID and is the MPO for Kootenai County. The KMPO Director and staff maintain day-to-day operational and administrative needs. The KMPO Board oversees the KMPO operations. KMPO also has a technical transportation committee, KCATT, which meets monthly to discuss and advise the KMPO Board on technical transportation issues.
